It's good to recheck your clues!

It's good to recheck your clues.  Want to know why?  So you can be sure the letterboxes are still ACTIVE!  We were 0/6 and were feeling pretty bummed.  However, when we got home and emailed the planter, she told us they'd been part of the attack on her boxes.  Duh!!
So next time we take a trip, I'm going through my printed clues.  On the plus side though, we found some great places to hide boxes!!!  And we still had fun looking, even if we didn't find!

Handcuffs, 'boxing & illegal activities

There are only 2 boxes in this area where we've moved that we have not found.  This is one of them.  Last summer there was a huge fire.  We had hoped to find it, but the area was closed.  Yesterday we went back to see.  The fire got the area pretty good.  Burned over 100,000 acres- huge fire- and we wanted to see if the box survived.

I made CowboyJoe go down the path to see how far the visual point was.  Yes, he crossed the orange tube.  But just a little look.  He came back quick, here is a camera there snapping pictures with a motion detector.  He said the area was pretty damaged by the fire, not sure if the box could survive.  But it was a fast moving fire, so there is a chance.  We joked that if he got arrested (RocktheNater & I stayed off the trail) would I pay his bail.  Thankfully someone volunteered to sell his kidney- so no fear in bail postings.

Hoping that the work they have started will be finished soon, so we can go back and see about the box.  With no worries about pictures and handcuffs.

Memorial Site for Don Mackey

We did not find the letterbox that was hidden here.  Spent over an hour searching- but no luck.  They've cleaned out the area a lot this summer, and Joe thinks it was cleaned up.  I'm hoping it was just "taken" by someone to log and needs to be brought back.  Loads of people on the trail (the campground was full) and we were the 3rd car at the trail head.  When we came out around 11:00 (it was 8:30 when we left home) both parking areas were full.  Even the trailer parking (we were bummed to not see any of the horses) was full!!

Emailed the box owner to show her where we looked.  I can't see how we missed it- but we want to be sure!

Whirlwind Wyoming 'Boxing

Well, those 2.5 days of letterboxing, mixed in with rain, snow, more rain, more snow, wind, cold, and even more rain- made for a not so happy letterboxing adventure. However, perhaps we could be called HARD CORE letterboxers now!

We boxed with Nater's dad, which we were meeting in Cheyenne, WY, but got switched up some due to weather & vehicle issues. Mostly weather. But we had some interesting experiences- including almost getting our cars towed and a very angry chef. Getting soaked to the bone and barely being able to stamp because we were so wet and cold our hands wouldn't work. We split up and Nater went with his dad to places unknown for the summer & we continued up and around to get back to Monatana.

Elephant Cave

I have to admit, this kind of freaked me out. So I decided to be the look out in case any crazy people came to celebrate their Easter Sunday in a cave!

We had no luck finding anything logable here, there should have been 3 boxes. We found parts of one- with shot guns shells all over the ground. They blew it apart, literally. We covered the area hoping to find the log book or just the stamp, but no such luck.

The kid was upset that someone would do that. I agree, bring your own targets and leave our game alone!!

No luck on this find. A busy park, and we think that it was once under the tree that has been whacked! This is the 4th box we've tried to locate in this park with no luck. Very busy, VERY well kept.
(picture for the box owner- showing where we think it was, and tree was seriously trimmed)

PLB; LB

I'm not able to upload pictures right now, but they will be coming soon!!!

We had no luck finding this one. Do NOT take little kids with you- my 11 year old even had a hard time. Heck, I had a hard time! The only one who didn't fall (but he did slip) was my husband. We knew where we were going when we went up, but we never got to the other rocky knob spot. We couldn't find it, but when we came down and looked back up-- I think that it might be on the far right side one...

I asked if they wanted to go back up and try again. My son, who can't tell my charming sarcasm self, fell on the ground and said "no" over and over and over and over again. I'm with him. We'll try when it's warmer. But not another try today.

It was done as a box to celebrate the boxer's first grandchild. And let me tell you- I would rather go through no drugs labor again than climb that mountain! Really. But it sure was an AWESOME view.

KIFAS

No luck in finding this one. Wasn't sure it would be as this LBer has moved from the area and most of his boxes are not there anymore. However, we did try!

JL

Busy place for sure!! There was one car in the parking spot when we arrived, and by the time we left about an hour later (looking for 2 boxes) there were 5!
We did not have any success in finding this box. However, we did have fun times looking! I fell on my rear end on a slush/ice spot and my son laughed so hard he nearly face planted too. My husband wished he'd had the camera instead of me to get pictures. :)

GP

We will have to go back here when people are actually riding their horses. None on this cold day in February. However, there were about 3 or 4 people out with dogs. No luck in finding the letterbox. We checked all the trees, just in case, but nothing at all. It was a very clean area- so I'm sure it was found and discarded by some grounds keepers.

TF- Wwomb

My mom wanted to go letterboxing for her birthday. So even though the weather wasn't the best and Joe's driving scares her, we tried this one box. (The other the road was too bad.) We didn't find it, but we did come across 2 people, a dad and his son, who were looking for a geocache. We swapped information & it was fun talking to them. Mom said if we ever came across anyone else doing it, we'd make sure to talk to them- not just go somewhere else for a little bit.

Anyhow, we didn't have any luck. Not sure exactly what pile of rocks, but if it was too low the water could have carried it away.

I was a little upset about this LB. The clue was difficult, we'd been going back and forth on it for about 2 months. Then finally, in a moment of pure genius, I figured out half teh clue. Then the first part. A phone call to my mom who had computer access- we were driving- and we had an address.

The thought of asking a store clerk "do you have any monkeys on the moon" was a bit hilarious- though we were going to do it.

Only, it wasn't the store it was supposed to be.

I did enjoy the yarns and bought a book even, however- we didn't ask about monkeys, and I'm sure we'd have gotten a crazy look if we had!

**Please, please, please-- if you move out of the state, or you don't have anyone to look out for your boxes- be nice, update them when someone lets you know something is up!!! This is the 5th box form the person, and it's a bit infuriating that he just leaves them up instead of retiring them out. Or just updating it to say "missing"**

EM

We tried- but it was no longer there. Looks like a spot where people would come camping- certainly enough litter in the area for it to be true. So, while we attempted it- we also hid one close!! Stay tuned to those directions soon!

MIA- looked on our way to GNP- no luck!

Grrrrr- Watch out!

We tried, half the trail was closed, so not sure we found the right big boudler- it was huge- but we think we did. We'll try again next summer and hoepfully they will have the other half opened so we can be sure if it's missing or not!

3 in V, MT

Found 2 of the 3 that were up on Bear Creek trailhead.
FOUND: Chaak Ti Witz & Neopets: Uni.
NOT FOUND: Neopets: Lupe
Not bad though-- we looked for almost an hour on the Lupe one. Under so many areas of rocks that our heads spun.
When we moved on the to Uni one, we were very surprised that we actually found it! Not only that, but we were the 1st finders!!! A first for us!

The clues were hard to decipher, for us, on those two. However the Chaak Ti Witz was very easy for us- hip hooray for that! :)

We had along a tagalong to our group. He even logged in via blackberry to see if there were additional clues to help us find it. However, with it getting dark we decided to head home and be glad we found 2!

Lake Como Letterboxes

Well, the day we went off in search of these 2 boxes, it was a PERFECT day for hiking! Sunny, but not too hot. Lots of people on the trail- which made for fun "look normal" moments.

We had luck with the 1st box. However the second box was a no-find. We searched for it for close to 45 minutes. Hoping it had slip, or was buried down deep. But, no such luck.

We did however figure out some great places to do our own hides- and even a series! Now to just get those images on paper & stamp and away we'll go!!!

NS

No luck finding a letterbox, we did find some litter which we picked up and dumped in the propper places.

This place has special meaning to the 2 oldest in our group. Yours truly and my hubs. This is where he proposed so many years ago. I'm a sucker for waterfalls & springs. :)

Maybe on our next trip back we'll have to place a LB here.. we should be back around Easter 2010... now to come up with a spot...

Catch a Fish or Catch a Rash

This one was near my SIL's house, almost literally! However, no luck in finding it- though we did search. We also did stay clear of the poison ivy!! They (in-law's) plan on doing this for FHE one night as they thought it sounded like loads of fun!!
Isn't this shot pretty? Wish it was lunch time for a picnic!!

Come into My Lab

This was easy enough to find, however when we got there- it was grown up so much. Our travel attire didn't allow for scrambling through thorns and brush. Flip flops and shorts. Bummed, but will use this as a reminder. Sometimes jeans should be worn on road trips!!
