Happy Birthday!

We aren't sure we looked in the right place- but we know were were in the right area. Waiting to here back from the placer. It might, also, be under water.

Our Memorial Day hunts have been a bust today- but we had a lot of fun trying to find them.

"California" here I come!!!

Once again, we found the spot- and even the pile of rocks (with a now stump of a tree instead of a tree) but nothing hidden underneath.

It was a nice walk- and the Clark Fork River is flowly very swiftly and high! Expected to hit flood stage by morning.

We enjoyed looking at the wall- what fun for kids to be able to do legally! It was colorful & some thoughtful as well as funny quotes written on it.

Alligator Farm

I'm betting it's covered in water and washed away. We had to go on the trail the back way- but everything was still pretty swampy! My son decided we should be looking for a floating glove!!

Poker Joe

The road was flooded from our laate spring run off. We weren't in our truck (which has 4WD) so we decided that we would try again next time. In about 2 weeks everything should be soaked in enough. Hoping it didn't get washed away!!!

Rose Garden tri-box

This was in the same spot as the below LB, and we looked for all 4. We had fun following the clues- but no luck with the boxes. We did find a nice hole where we thought the box would be though!

What was funny was how busy the park was. I was so sure people were wondering what we were doing- especially as we counted rows & columns to figure out the clues!!

Heart of the Bitterroot

Just a word of warning- you do need a permit to access this site. It's a nice walk, but it was sad to see blatant disregard: gun shells, litter and what looked to be a recent campfire.
However, what a GORGEOUS view of our little piece of the world. Can you see my house?!

Fires of 2000

Etomology

This was a fun hunt- as Nater *LOVES* bugs, and we got personal with them. We found 3 of the 5 with no problem. We decided that the other 2 were washed away last spring with the flooding that we had. No matter- we did get some of our bugs!!!

We are really starting to enjoy this and while we've planted one letterbox already and looking for spots for more. I've even shared with friends and as a family we are planning to look for at least one a weekend. With summer coming up and plenty of road trips that will be happening and we can find even more!

Letterbox Placed: Red Ghost (Montana)

Placed By: FrogiNater
Placement date: May 16 2009
State: Montana
County: Granite
Nearest city: Garnet
Number of boxes: 1

Clues
There's a new ghost in the cute little ghost town of Garnet, Montana. As you look around for the 2 boxes (yes two- surprise!) the visitor's center has, be assured that there is yet another one there!

As you walk away from the visitors center walk towards a place to relieve yourself. Notice the trail goes uphill as well- you want to go that way. After you relieve yourself if neccessary.

Follow the trail up past the 2nd spot of relief. Feel free to rest your toes and take in a view for a minute or two. Continue to the 2nd place to relieve your toes (or 3rd place of relief) and you'll be on a cute little lookout above the town.

Look under the left corner- and you'll have it!

Pie in the "Big" Sky

Smokejumper Center

When we got here we weren't the only ones. Someone had found our box and taken it with them to a picnic table. We were circling like crazy people, until my mom walked over to let them know what we were doing. They'd said they wondered since there was a guy with a piece of paper in his hand.

They re-hid it as we chatted over at the memorial- and then we looked in the spot again- and whammmmmmmo- it was there!!

Garnet Ghost Town

The drive to Garnet, Montana was all of our first trip there. Even though 3 of us have lived here for almost 3 yrs, we'd never made the drive.

My mom printed a letterbox for it (since she knew we were going to go while she was up visiting from Texas) and that sealed the deal.

We'd tried letterboxing last summer- with no luck. So with her to show us the way, we woudl shortly know what we were doing!

She knew of one LB, however when we got there (what a CRAZY road, with mud & snow- beware of driving in spring runoff) we found out at the visitors station that there were 2 LB's.

We had to hike through the snow, but we found them both.

Not only that, we also hid our first box there as well! Fun times- and now my mom has created a monster!
