Come into My Lab

This was easy enough to find, however when we got there- it was grown up so much. Our travel attire didn't allow for scrambling through thorns and brush. Flip flops and shorts. Bummed, but will use this as a reminder. Sometimes jeans should be worn on road trips!!

State Bird???

No luck finding this one, but we did find our very 1st geocache (even though we don't do that one!) We also had the privilege of meeting another family of LB's who were going it to look when we were giving up. So we went BACK in and gave it a try with 5 heads instead of 2. Still no luck.

Great rest area though- plenty of room to stretch your legs!

All About the Corn

In honor of our trip to see the Corn Palace, I knew I must carve & hide.
Going Eastbound on I90, hit the rest area after Mitchell. Park in a place where you can be proud to be an American. You will see a path- take it and go towards 3 white objects. Sit at the one furthest east. Look south, and you will see a lone bush. The you will find your own personal corn cob.

Sturgis

I was so excited to be IN Sturgis, I forgot all about placing the LB there. We remembered the next morning after we'd gotten back on the road! I was determined to still hide it anyhow- especially in light of watching all the cycles & vehicles carrying cycles headed west to Sturgis still.

I also, in my excitement, forgot to take a picture. For shame. :)

East Bound I90, between mile markers 164 & 165 rest area.
Park in the furthest east side of parking lot. In front of you- facing south- is a telephone pole. At the base, under rocks, you'll find your very own motorcycle.

Wallasaurus

Another fun hiding spot. Lots of people walking around, even this early! However, picnic tables, and nice scenery kept us busy till we could rehide it! Again, the logbook was completely full!!

Wall Drug

What a fun little town, fun store, and a fun hiding spot!! The log book was full, and I'd planned on letting loose a HH, however it was too tiny. No worries, we'll be LB in plenty of areas still!

Crow Country

What a PERFECT hiding spot! Really, I mean, I would have never thought to lift something on the train and stick it in there! Nice picnic spot also from a long day of travel!

TOPS

You will find a little parking area next to the river at the corner of 9th & River. Park there. Look for the twin trees with a lot of arms between them. Behind the one with the most arms, at the base under some rocks, you will find your TOPS motivation.

This LB was hidden for all the trips to Livingston I've done for TOPS. I do love traveling, and I really love the park that is close by. Bring a picnic, a book, and even a blanket. It's a great place to relax, watch and have fun.

Road Side Attractions: Our Lady of the Rockies

2 for the price of 1!! Yes, that's a HH that we found, a "Beer Hitchhiker" to be exact. I'd hoped Nater wouldn't get any beer on him till he was over 21, but no such luck I guess! ;)

We are bummed to miss the meet up, but at least could find a couple on our big mega road trip.

Letterbox: Yummy Yum!
Date Found: July 29, 2009
Type: Traditional
Status: Found

Message from Finder:*
Great spot! Careful for falling pine cones though, I swear we were under attack!

So excited to get notes when things are found. :)

27 July 2009

Sacajawea's Brother, take 2!

Never overthink a LB. I did, but went back to try again thanks to a tip from the "before me finder."

YAY!

26 July 2009

New Log Books

We were using just these little spiral notebooks, but now that we are addicted, had to make some. It was nice & easy as I'm an avid scrapbooker. But I didn't want the outside too phooofy. :)
Hoping no one has a stamp out there bigger than 4X6- as we've come across some 3x5 ones!

24 July 2009

Yummy Yum!!

In honor of 100 degree temps- we went to play in the river with Oreo (our Lab & Aussie mix) and plant a letter box since we were doing so many of our favorite things at once.
Snow cones (hence the name), river playing & fun with family!

A Pretty Place

A great hike- straight up, or so it felt like! ;) But was nice! I wish we'd had a picnic with us to sit and eat and be cooled off by the spray. We were up there with 3 other families, not our own- iuntruders ha ha, so we didn't hang out very long, but we loved it just the same!!!

Gorgeous stamp too people!!

Sealed with a fish (Bozeman)

Our 1st time in this area- and it was GORGEOUS!! I wish we'd had more time to do the other LB's in the area. But today was not the day. We'll have to come back and camp up here for a few days and then do them!!

Easy find, nice walk, and a place to cool off very close! We loved that someone piled rocks even to make little wading pools for small children. Nice in a swift moving creek!

Wildflower

What a GORGEOUS place! Everyone MUST go to Fairy Lake. However, you will not find this LB. It was missing. We think it was found when someone made a fire ring a few feet away from where the box should have been. BUT! Still go! It's simply breath taking. People were evening skiing the snow fields. How fun is that!!

Quack Quack!

So we started the morning on on a good note- a find! Not just a find, but we had a great time reading up, and observing wildlife. We also stuck in one of the HH's we'd gotten. (We were waiting to stick it where we knew it would be picked up soon.)

20 July 2009

Beavertail Hill

We'd tried this one once before, but there were just too many people to even look. What does anyone do on a hot summer day?!

So we went back, it was later in the evening, and we were bug sprayed. Found the box pretty easily. One entry had us cracking up!!

Gold Creek

It was listed as missing, but we still had to try! We found where we think it was to be, but no luck. We decided that the mosquito's carried it away!!!

The Lost Texan Series #21-Montana

No luck in finding this one. It was reported missing- but I still had to try! I did find lots of trash, and cleaned out plenty. Sad since there is a trash can right in the door, and another around the corner.

Would have thought the LB would have been concealed by the tree!

14 July 2009

Sacajawea's Brother

A beautiful walk- and loved the "diamonds behind a fence" clue! However, no success in finding this LB.

13 July 2009

1st HH launched!

In honor of Nater's new stamp- we are using his old one to travel the US! I placed it today- bet you can't guess where! I hope it travels well!

East Meets West

Well, this was my 1st LB that I found all on my own. Neither of my cohorts were with me on this trip- but that's okay!

It was a nice, easy, walk to find the box. I admit- it's been a long time since I'd hopped over a bridge fence!! I felt so naughty- like I was going to get busted!

The box was right where they said it would be- and found it with no problem!! If you come this way, be sure to look up the directions for the other LB close by! We didn't realize there were 2 the last time we were out here looking for the other.

Montana History

Not knowing Bozeman well, I had some help with this one. Read the clue to some friends and they immediately knew where we should go! It was a great way to explain LB to them as well, since they were curious about it.
Hooker got his knees wet (remember the storm we were caught in below?!!) but we found both boxes.

It was hard to be sneaky- lots of people and traffic. But, as always, worth the hunt!

Butte Trolley

The 1st try was when it was starting to rain. The second try, on our way home from Bozeman, was much nicer!! Easy find, nice walk- it was also an AWESOME carve! Hooker was very impressed with it, and kept exclaiming over it while we did our books.

Singing in the Rain- MT

So this LB had been reported missing, but we wanted to give it a try anyhow. Who knew that we were going to "be" the LB!
We'd passed through a storm and when we got Bozeman we figured we'd be okay for a nice little walk. We followed along, found the spot where the LB should have been. Someone threw the rocks everywhere and no box to be found.

Then it started to rain. A lot. We started running back, and then I started slipping on the mud. We looked like we'd jumped into the pond and gotten out. That's how wet we were. We each got a new outfit out of it, but I'm sure those people wondered what our issue was walking in sopping wet!!! Too bad we couldn't have gone home to change- home was 5 hours away!!

03 July 2009

Belted Kingfisher

This one wasn't too far off the highway on our lunch destination. A nice little nature walk, much of it along the river, and plenty of nature (wear bug spray!)

This was a PERFECT hiding spot, the crevice in the stump was just deep enough to conceal it almost on it's own!!

There was another close- just on the other side of the highway, however it was crammed with people swimming near it, so we will do that another time.

Gem Mountain

Gem Mountain was found by us the 1st summer we moved here. As we waiting to close on our house we did PLENTY of day trips, just to get our bearings of the surrounding area. We spent many days & dollars here!! It’s a great family fun couple hours. For $14 (as of the date the LB was planted) you can get a bucket of gravel and spend 1-2 hours sifting for sapphires (you can also find garnets and other gems- but sapphires are the ticket here.)

Clues: Gem Mountain if found at the bottom of Skalkaho pass on the Phillipsburg side. Start at the sign at the entrance. Look west and you can spot a device that keeps people out. Walk to it. Under the 1st big rock on the back right side you will find this gem.

Skalkaho Pass

Skalkaho pass is one of our favorite spots. Not only for the gorgeous drive, but also for wildlife, mini waterfalls, Skalkaho falls, and also all the trails & camp grounds. Our family spends a lot of time in this area each summer. Stay a bit, find the other LB’s in the area (Skalkaho photo op & Water drop falls) and take a nice walk! The day we placed this, mosquito’s were out in droves (thanks to 3 weeks of rain!) Have fun!!!

Clues: Start up Skalkaho highway to the top of the pass. Park in the turn off by the pass elevation sign- 7250.

Look around and you will see a sign for the 2 closest towns. Walk towards it. You will see a pathway- follow it back 34 steps. Go 9 steps left. Look towards the road and take another 9 steps forward.

This should take you to a tree surrounded by stumps. In the crevice at the base of the big tree you will find what you're looking for.

Introducing Mountain Sue

We invited Mountain Sue along with us for our long week LB dates. She'd heard us talking about it- but had never been out to do it. So, here is her 1st find. We found a lot that day- but mostly her doing. But we did make up some plants as well! She got a lot of information in her 1st day of LB!!

02 July 2009

Luthers Rose

No luck here- but an easy enough spot anyhow!! I wonder how many people whizzing by wondered what we were doing!! Lots of travellers for the holiday weekend!!

Shayla- Here there be Dragons Series

The mosquito's were sure out in droves! Imagine the horror when we got in there and realized we forgot to spray ourselves- but had it in the car!!

So, we looked around a bit, found it and ran for the car. Sprayed ourselves, filled it all out and then I sent Hooker back to place it where we found it.

It's a gorgeous trail, and we plan to go back this weekend to walk up it and place one of our own. We found the perfect spot!
We might even borrow "Shayla" for a story on where it is!!
