Cross Country Skiing while 'boxing!

So, we thought it would be fun to box while out on Christmas day.  We hid quite a few while we were out there-- the interesting fact?  There was close to 4 FEET of snow on the ground while planting.

Should make for interesting summer finds!!!

Sacajawea finding got me a MOOSE!

I love moose.  Imagine me finding a letterbox & a moose all at once!!  I was completely elated.  And super bummed because my dang camera was in our suitcases and not up front with me!  We were on our way to Boise, and spotted him just south east of Salmon, literally 100yrds or less from where I had nabbed our first box of the weekend.

A-Maze-ing Event! (Boise, ID)

This was our official first event ever!  What a great time to have it take place in a city with so much history for us.  We had SUCH a crazy good time, and if I wasn't already hooked, I certainly am now!  Funny side story?  A fellow boxer worked at the same place I worked so many years ago.  She was hired not too long before we moved away, but we recognized each other.  Though it did take a minute to know why.  :)

Memorial Site for Don Mackey

We did not find the letterbox that was hidden here.  Spent over an hour searching- but no luck.  They've cleaned out the area a lot this summer, and Joe thinks it was cleaned up.  I'm hoping it was just "taken" by someone to log and needs to be brought back.  Loads of people on the trail (the campground was full) and we were the 3rd car at the trail head.  When we came out around 11:00 (it was 8:30 when we left home) both parking areas were full.  Even the trailer parking (we were bummed to not see any of the horses) was full!!

Emailed the box owner to show her where we looked.  I can't see how we missed it- but we want to be sure!

Finally found & the boxers go wild!

Cowboy Joe & Mountain Sue get a little crazy after finding a box we've searched for over 6 times.

The meet up in Boise!

We had a great time meeting everyone!!  Joe (CowboyJoe) was excited that there were guys-- hasn't happened very much.  :)  Nathan (RocktheNater) loved that it was in a park, and there were ooooodles of kids to play with.
That was probably the best part of it all.  We hid, we found, we ate and we had a BLAST!!
I really hope we can get back there for a big meet up.  As badly as we want to go to the A-MAZE-ing event, 8 hours away and potential bad weather keeps us back.

But maybe...   :)

02 September 2010

Headed to Twin Falls & Boise, Idaho!

And there is gonna be a mini-meet in Eagle, ID at 5pm in Merrill Park.

Wahoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Super excited.

27 August 2010

Warning- some of my boxes might melt...

We saw it start up last night... I watched it for a few hours & promised I'd rescue boxes before I left for school. No such luck-- roads were closed. This evening when we went back to see how it was doing (up closer, about 2 miles, instead of from our yard) it was blocked off completely, even further down that at lunch time.

In all seriousness, my stuff is just boxes- but my thoughts are with all those people whose homes are threatened. Even the "nuts" who are signing waivers because they refuse to leave their homes.

Precious Moments

Love Precious Moments, had to hide a box. This moated castle? A view from where the box is hidden. I want to run away there and live!

Secret box

Well, not really secret, it's logged in & out there to find. But secret from my Gram. We hid this on our way out of Northfield, NH- heading back to Joplin, MO. Pictured is "zTurtle" my mom. And she's making sure the paperclip and yarn doesn't drop the box down deep.

Can't go that deep actually, but if you are short like my mom, it could cause an issue!

ILP: My gram

Isn't she the cutest thing ever?!!

I had such a great time going out and boxing with her every day while in New Hampshire. Especially taking her to places outside her comfort zone of driving.

Below is the stamp I carved for her siggy. She was using a smiley face she bought, but to me she's always been a binocular-bird looking lady. She especially loves Loons.

Back after almost a month away!

It's funny to think that I was gone just about a month, more than 3 weeks, just less than 4. We found & hid loads of boxes. I think I hid about 15 just in New Hampshire! Find's, not quite sure yet.

Stay tuned for pictures and commentary-- need to crop, figure, log and all that good stuff.

26 July 2010

Hitting the road!

The road includes traveling from SW Montana, to Billings, to Sturgis, down to Kansas City, MO, up to Niagra Falls, to Concord, NH and Brunswick, ME. Then home again a different route.

I have my boxes printed out, boxes ready to hide and our first event ever to attend!

16 July 2010

Kurious Jo is comin' to Missoula!

We'll be meeting up with them tomorrow night at 7:30pm for dinner at the Montana Club.

Montana Club
4561 N Reserve
Missoula, Mt

If you want my number to reach me about it, please email me at froginater at gmail dot com.

Hope to see you there-- I would also love to meet up with any local boxers, as I haven't yet. I'm not even sure if there are any local ones... :)

Maine's Nautical Past

FrogiNater & RocktheNater (the kid said he needed his own name!)

Plus my mom, zTurtle, and my Gram- who, well, I have no idea what her trailname is! My mom got her started and she loves it! But, she doesn't drive, and she sounded SUPER excited when I told her about it this afternoon.

Are you going? Well, if you're in New England, you should!

05 July 2010

Going Biking on the Hiawatha

We did the Hiawatha trail (pictured is our friend Mountain Sue & my husband) and what a blast!!
We had one stamp ready to go and hide, but plan to go back and hide even more along this bike trail. It was AWESOME!!!
For those of you who might be traveling to ID & MT- you can rent bikes & lights should you not bring yours. It's worth it- I promise!

02 July 2010

Boxing in NEW HAMPSHIRE!

That's right- we're hitting the road and driving (yes, we're nuts) from Montana, down to Joplin, Missouri where I'll meet my mama (zTurtle) and we'll take off for NH for almost 2 weeks. We figure we'll be there around the 1st. And we'll leave probably around the 10th. Gotta give drive time, and it's a full 2 weeks she (my mama) has taken off.

We plan on finding/hiding some boxes on the trip up and back. Possibly meeting people too! My Gram (she lives in Tilton, NH) said there is a new boxing family that has moved into the area- she's excited about that as she doesn't go far from home.

So, for you would might like to meet up-- let me know, here or message me on AtlastQuest or LBNA. Don't forget-- we're "FrogiNater."

27 June 2010

Weather is finally cooperating!

We were able to go into Helena for a super fast trip. We found 3 boxes including one inside this YUMMY chocolate store.
We loaded up on $20 worth of chocolate & brittle, stamped our stuff and continued on our way.
Word to the wise-- DON'T follow the Helena city map to find the walking mall. Park at the library downtown and walk over towards the parking garage- and you'll be there.
The map got us lost!

Whirlwind Wyoming 'Boxing

Well, those 2.5 days of letterboxing, mixed in with rain, snow, more rain, more snow, wind, cold, and even more rain- made for a not so happy letterboxing adventure. However, perhaps we could be called HARD CORE letterboxers now!

We boxed with Nater's dad, which we were meeting in Cheyenne, WY, but got switched up some due to weather & vehicle issues. Mostly weather. But we had some interesting experiences- including almost getting our cars towed and a very angry chef. Getting soaked to the bone and barely being able to stamp because we were so wet and cold our hands wouldn't work. We split up and Nater went with his dad to places unknown for the summer & we continued up and around to get back to Monatana.

23 May 2010

Plant-a-box Day (tomorrow!!)

And we planted a load of them today. Have 2 more to hide tomorrow after school/work and before a band concert.

It's our 1st time participating, since it's also the mark (pretty darn close at least) to our 1 year anniversary of having 'boxing brought to our family.

Thanks mom- it has seriously been an AWESOME family activity for us!!

14 May 2010

Go Green Garden- returns from the lost!

What a crazy afternoon at our community garden! I'd retired these 2 boxes earlier this year because they had gone missing. I figured they had been blown out and someone tossed them.

Fast forward to today.

I was taking a break on a bench in some shade- near where one of the boxes were- I happened to look towards the gate, right angle, right everything, and notice something in the frog planter. 2 somethings. I snatched it up (staged picture, after checking the contents) and checked.

Stamps- check! Log book- CHECK!!

How crazy fun is that. So I plan on rehiding them, this time I believe I'll do it in my own plot, but how exciting for sure! YAY!!!

10 May 2010

Kootenai Creek Trailhead

Mix in a great trailhead, pretty mountains, picnic & a letterbox or two and you'll know what our family did to celebrate Mothers Day!
It's what I wanted to do.

02 May 2010

Critter's take the Sky!

And even though it was so very cold, snowing off and on, there were still bugs flying around. Bug spray would be very good in the warmer months!
It was a lovely time of spending a full morning 'boxing. We've been hiding so many, since not many are around us & we've found all of the ones that are.

Birthday Wishes: Jenny

We almost got caught by 2 hikers. Exciting times!!

Shake off a tail feather

It's Snow Joke

Seemed appropriate to place today since it was snowing while we we out on the trail. We passed a guy coming out and he said to be careful if we were going to the falls because it was snowing pretty bad- he's fallen! Yikes.

Birthday Wishes: Bryce

We've been sitting on this for almost a month, but finally hid it today. In honor of my nephew's birthday- plan on having him find it when he comes out to visit this summer.

Lost Griz (Texas) needs help!

*Needs a new log book. Were told 5/2/10 that it was soaking wet. We live in Montana and are not able to replace in a timely manner. If you could help us, we'd be VERY grateful!!!*

05 April 2010

Balance Rock

The guys did go all the way up and tried to push it off. J said that a guy once tried to blow it up and they had to go in and fix it. Which led to a discussion on what we'd do if it did fall over.
I think the box would survive though, one of the entries said it survived a fire!

Cute green troll

Well, wouldn't you know it- I didn't go out prepare, and this one needed help I couldn't totally give. Water logged! But, the book was there and so was the stamp. I turned everything inside out and tried to dry the book up as much as I could. Yay for a paper towel and a windy day! I didn't stamp the book, but I did write in it, didn't want my ink to stain the other pages.

It was a great spot though- and a nice little walk. Even with the wind, cold and snow!

Hell's 1/2 Acre

How could you not want to put a box here?! It screamed for one- and since I didn't want to go off the trail, it's not hidden where you might think it would be! I would suggest walking the trails though- too bad our puppy wasn't welcomed (no pets) but J stayed with the dog and the kid and I stuck to the pavement. It was an awesome walk- I wish more rest area's had walking paths.

Elephant Cave

I have to admit, this kind of freaked me out. So I decided to be the look out in case any crazy people came to celebrate their Easter Sunday in a cave!

We had no luck finding anything logable here, there should have been 3 boxes. We found parts of one- with shot guns shells all over the ground. They blew it apart, literally. We covered the area hoping to find the log book or just the stamp, but no such luck.

The kid was upset that someone would do that. I agree, bring your own targets and leave our game alone!!

God Blessed Texas!

No, I didn't get to make a trip home for Easter weekend, but I did leave a symbol of home in one of my favorite parts of the drive to Twin Falls. I love this area- and I am always amazed that it literally looks like you are going to drive into the mountain instead of going on a road!
My husband thought the road should have gone a different way- but I am glad they didn't do that!
While hiding this we also found a geocache, right where *I* wanted to hide ours. :)

Boxing road trip #2!

The road trip took us from our home in south western Montana, to Twin Falls, Idaho-- and all around. We went down one way, and home part way differently. Lots of boxes found, more boxes hidden.

Only one place was a bust. We'd planned on going into Boise, but it just wasn't to be. Next time. We also got our 1st FIRST FINDER!! I was told we'd been a FF before, but I honestly don't recall that... so for now- this one was it. Was thrilled, because it was hidden a long while ago.

Roadside caves, machine guns, rain, snow, mud, animal skeletons and so much more! What fun times. Stay tuned-- eventually I'll be putting up all the pictures and stories to go with them. But first-- we need to type up the directions for the boxes we hid!

28 March 2010

Birthday Wishes: Tony

In honor of my baby brother's birthday. I knew we were going to hide one, but I had no idea where- then the perfect spot presented itself.

Go to Fort Missoula and find a nice spot to park. It's a great place to take a picnic on a nice day. Plenty of open grassy areas and a lot you can visit-- you shouldn't get bored.

Once you are ready to start looking, search for building 334, Powder Magazine.

Once you read about this, you will understand why this was the perfect place. My family is from Texas- and not just any part of Texas, Fort Hood. (Family of Army brats.) Read the sign to see the significance of this building. Walk around the east side to the back of the building. About 5 steps in, once you turn the corner, you will want to bend down low and remove 2 loose rocks at dirt level. That's where's Tony's birthday wish is.
